Melina Kanakaredes
connected with audiences around the world as the star of
NBC’s
hit drama “Providence.” Her engaging portrayal
of plastic surgeon Dr. Sydney Hanson earned her the TV Guide
Award for Favorite Actress in a Drama in 2000.
Born and raised in Ohio, Ms. Kanakaredes’ interest
in acting began at a young age. She was involved in dance
and theatrical productions throughout high school and went
on to study theater in college. Her acting career took off
in 1991 when she was cast as Greek immigrant Eleni Andros
Cooper in the daytime drama “Guiding
Light.” Ms.
Kanakaredes was awarded two Emmy nominations for her work
on the show.
Ms. Kanakaredes’ feature films include Bleeding
Hearts, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Dangerous Beauty, Rounders and
15 Minutes.
She is currently starring opposite Gary Sinise on CBS’s new crime drama “CSI:
NY,” airing Wednesday nights at ten.
